Selection of a Global Custodian
Winchester White Case Study
A Winchester White Client was seeking to reduce its number of custodian relationships and establish a primary long-term, mutually beneficial partnership with a major global custodian that had a significant presence and proven track record in the UK marketplace. Winchester White was engaged to manage the evaluation and selection process based upon market knowledge and written responses to a Request For Information.
Among the key criteria used to evaluate the different responses were:
- Range of custody services
- Custody network/use of sub custodians
- Financial strength
- Governance & compliance monitoring
- Internal controls
- Fees & charges
- Business structure & operating model
- Operational capability including:
- Settlement
- Corporate actions
- Company meetings and proxy voting
- Safekeeping
- Income collection
- Reporting
- Cash Management
- Disaster recovery & plans
A total of 11 Custodians were invited to participate in the selection process, including those suppliers who at the time provided Custody and Trustee services to our client.
As a direct result of Winchester White's evaluation and our associated recommendation, our client was able to plan and establish a course of action to enable them to achieve their overall custody objectives.
Winchester White has the experience, expertise and process to work with clients in the evaluation of local and global custody service provision.
